Yip Pin Xiu wins Singapore’s first Paralympic gold medal

Yip Pin Xiu has broken some things again.
She broke her second World and Paralympic record in the 50-metre backstroke heats with a timing of 57.92 seconds on Monday, 15 September.
In the same day, she broke another record, winning Singapore’s first Paralympic gold in the 50-metre backstroke finals with a timing of 58.75 seconds.
What’s amazing about all this? She is just a 16-year-old girl, who studies at Bendemeer secondary. She suffers from muscular dystrophy, which affects her muscle movement.
Her doctor said that her skeletal muscles will degenerate till she reaches the age of 20 when her condition will stabilize. Her eyesight will also become worse because of a nerve condition.
Though such news would have shattered most of us, she went on to shatter more records. She is Singapore’s first Paralympic gold medalist with two World and Paralympic records under her belt.

She suffers the same type of illness as GB’s children. She produced excellent result and she deserves my respect….
